Nowadays, English becomes important in our daily life. Without any knowledge in English, it is not easy to bear with the modernization and difficult to deal with others. Many people said, English is very complicated to learn. But, did u know learning is English is really fun and interesting.
Last week, for my Technical Communications lecture, we had learned about basic sentence structures. During the lecture, each student needs to construct a simple sentence. So, what is simple sentence? Simple sentence is a sentence made up by a combination of subject and verb. It may consist of only one subject with one verb or more than one subject with one verb. My sentence is “Aminah is going to the market in the early morning with her husband”.
From the simple sentence, we need to develop the sentence to compound sentence. Now, what is compound sentence? Compound sentence is a sentence made up of two or more simple sentences. It is usually joined by a comma and coordinating conjunction such as and, but, for, or, nor and join. If simple sentence made by only one verb, compound sentence is made up of two or more subject verb combinations. My sentence is “Aminah is going to the market in the early morning with her husband and on the way to the market they had an accident”.
Then, from the compound sentence, we need to develop the sentence to complex sentence. What is complex sentence? Complex sentence is a simple sentence combined with one or more clauses that cannot stand on their own. The clauses are joined by subordinators such as because, since, although, when, and while or relative pronouns such as that, why, and which. My sentence is “Aminah who is a very old woman is going to the market in the early morning with her husband and on the way to the market they had an accident when her husband tries to avoid from a car”.
Based on the three types of basic sentences above, don’t you think English is fun and interesting? From the very simple sentence which only consist one verb, you can develop the sentence become a complex sentence which is more details and easy to understand.
